My experience with home projects started at a young age helping my dad around the house with home maintenance and upgrades. My mom and I watched pretty much everything on TLC from Trading Spaces to Extreme Makeover: Home Edition and we were always repainting something in the house. I was heavily involved in theater throughout school where I actively participated in designing, building, and painting sets for plays and musicals. And when I purchased my first house and bought my first power tools, there was no stopping me from tackling any project around my home.
The first project I wanted to take on was the kitchen. Not just painting the cabinets and changing a backsplash, I wanted to double the size, relocate the sink, reframe a window, and lay new floors. I quickly learned how hard it can be to live through a renovation when you don’t properly plan for it. I had a vague idea of budget, but never really broke down the costs. I knew what I wanted it to look like in the end but I didn’t realize all the little things that had to happen for it to get there. Needless to say I learned a lot. At the time I didn’t see the value in spending the money to ask for help, but looking back I could have actually saved money and a lot of time if I had.
My primary bathroom was next on the list of rooms to tackle. In my head I thought it was a simple refresh - some new tile floors, a tiled shower, and replacing the builder grade tub with a freestanding one. It wasn’t until a couple days into it when my bathroom was down to subfloor and studs that I realized I gutted my bathroom.
While I was at it, I decided to shift a wall to enlarge one of my closets. That’s when I discovered my undying passion for designing custom closets! I took an inventory of all my belongings and planned out exactly what I’d need to store my clothes and shoes. I found just the right balance of drawers, shelves, and hanging space and then pieced it together in a way that not only looked cohesive, but flowed efficiently.
This was around the time that friends and family really started to notice that my projects were coming together in a very impressive way. The attention to detail and the thoughtfulness behind my choices were applauded, and that’s when people started to ask for help with their projects. Flooring, painting, tile work, custom closet design and installation, picking out finishes, installing new light fixtures and ceiling fans, mounting TVs, designing and installing feature walls… you name it, I was there to help however I could. All the while I worked a full time job for one of the largest and most highly praised airlines in the world where I refined my customer service skills and developed a mindset of always anticipating people’s needs.
After 11 and a half years I realized it was time to start a new chapter and focus my work on something I’ve always been truly passionate about - helping people build the lives they want by changing the way they live in their homes. I’ve also had experience working with realtors and their clients to prepare homes to maximize sales price, and been on site with investors and flip properties.
I love discussing updates and renovations, so give me a call or send me a text or email and let’s see how we can work together to enhance your home to its fullest potential!
